Series: (Paige Tailor #1)
Author: Jessica McQuay
Genre: YA/NA Paranormal Fantasy Novel
Format: Paperback
Pages: 240
Published: October 2012
Publisher: Cambridge Press
"Am I losing my mind?"
Paige couldn't help but question her
sanity. What other explanation could there be for her hearing a conversation
held barely above a whisper in the back of a classroom full of students? What
about coming home to find one of those very classmates lying in wait in the
darkness of her home, ready to attack her?
Confused, frustrated and feeling every
ounce of her social ostracism, Paige confides in the one person she's always
been able to count on: her mom. But when her mom reveals a deeply rooted,
unbelievable family secret, Paige discovers her world is filled with more than
she ever imagined possible. A world where fairy tales live alongside nightmares
and secrets are the glue that binds them together. Suddenly no one is who they
seem and Paige is faced with more questions than answers. Can she survive in a
world filled with creatures scarier than anything she could imagine and where
deceit runs as thick as blood? Or will the truth send her over the edge?
My rating: 3.5-4/5

Again, this rating is thwart as for
Goodreads and Amazon doesn't have the ultimate ''.5'' in their rating. As
usual, when my rating balances between two notes, I will do my review with the
''Liked and Disliked'' theme.
Liked:
First of all, I was attracted by the
wonderful cover: one thing for sure, the creator of this cover has skills (and
the model, wow this girl is beautiful!)! I was intrigued by the model pose.
After seeing it, I really wanted to read the blurb to find out if it fits my
taste!
The blurb, well, if you want to catch my
interest, here we go! Supernatural powers or abilities, supernatural being, fairy
tales, nightmares, I was hooked before I started to read this book!
The basic of this story. The storyline.
Overall, I loved the idea of Paige, who's starting to hear voices and actually
find out that she isn't hearing voice in her head but rather have a ''super''
hearing. Then, she will discover a whole new world surrounded her.
Paige. I got a love/hate relation with
this character. I liked the fact that she wasn’t the popular girl in school but
she wasn't the nerd type either. I liked and hated her stubbornness. I like
stubbornness until a specific point: when your life or the life of others is in
danger because of your action. Paige doesn't really cross that line but it was
over the edge!
Paige was a charming character, she
responded well with mostly everything that happened to her, she wasn't childish
but sometimes reckless. But give the girl a break! She makes typical mistakes
for her age and I think that add a lot to the fact that she's an attractive
character. I guess the reader will identify to her (in some way or another)
pretty fast.
Naialah. She's a special creature. Her
character surprised me. Actually, Paige and Naialah have a weird relationship.
When they are together, they mood and reactions are always different when they
are apart but seeking each other in the same time!?!
The action scenes. They were greatly
described and added a lot to the story. It was entertaining to learn about
Paige new world but the action/battle scenes were one of the most exciting
thing in this book.
The ending. I love to be surprised by an
unpredictable ending and this book got some elements that will surprise you (I
guess, I hope!).
Disliked:
Even if it was a fast-paced story, in
the middle, I had to put it down and think about it. From my POV, there are a
lot of elements you might enjoy but there was one thing missing for me and it
was romance.
No Romance. Don't get me wrong, I liked
this story, but would have loved it if there was a love story somewhere. Even
the slightest chance, but no.
I find that kind of weird that Paige
doesn't have any friends at all. From school, neighborhood, no mention of
family member likes a cousin who's friendly with her. No one! Like her mother
was her only friend-relation-family-confident?
Series: Yes (Paige Tailor #1)
Stand Alone: No!
Hotness: No one....
Proserpine Recommendation: If you're
like me and need romance in a story, you'll have to fall back on the action in
this book to really appreciate it. Not necessarily my kind of series, but the
storyline was enough to keep me reading!
There were only three things Jessica
loved to do growing up; reading, writing and playing music. She discovered her
love for writing at a young age, when she realized she could create anything
she wanted with words.
Jessica lives in Sacramento, CA with her
husband, four children, goldfish named Sparkle and her cat, Talula. When she
isn’t working on the next Paige Tailor novel, taking her children to one
activity or another, or folding the never ending laundry of a six person
family, Jessica enjoys playing her clarinet in the community band or dancing
like there is no tomorrow at Zumba.

Excerpt!
(It's one of my favorite part of this
book!)
Five minutes later, I lifted my head and
grabbed the pen and
paper. I scrambled to get my formulating
thoughts out in writing
before they were lost to me. Once I was
done I put the pen down
and read what I’d written back to
myself.
There was no other explanation for what
happened in science
class. I didn’t have the slightest idea
about the white light and
weird sensation from the last two
mornings. But today, in class, I
was ninety-nine percent certain I was on
the right path as I read
my own words scribbled across the lines.
I heard Matt’s thoughts.
